PublicaciónRaising Awareness in the Adoption of COVID-19 Preventive Measures in Higher Education Students through an Epidemiological Surveillance Mobile App(CEUR-WS, 2021-01-01)
;Bravo, J. ; ;Alarcón, R.COVID-19 disease has started several levels of alert and biosafety protocols to mitigate the risk of contagion everywhere, therefore causing universities to adopt the virtual environments in their teachings, but nowadays it became a necessity to return to classrooms in a short term basis; however, how prepared are we for this “new normal”? In this research, a validated questionnaire was used to measure the knowledge of COVID-19 and preventive measures adopted by university students, before and after the use of an epidemiological surveillance mobile app, developed as a tool to raise awareness in students. The research was quantitative, quasi-experimental, it was applied in a sample of 82 students, the analysis was global and gender inferential using the non-parametric T test for paired samples. The results indicated that the epidemiological surveillance mobile app made possible to raise awareness in the students in the adoption of preventive measures, proposing awareness strategies that allow establishing alerts and timely controls. © 2020 Copyright for this paper by its authors. -
PublicaciónA Prospective Model of a Digital Epidemiological Surveillance 4.0 Based on the Peruvian Public Health System(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2021-01-01)
; ; ; ;The health-disease situation of the population and health care delivery services are continuously monitored by epidemiological surveillance systems and health information systems, but since the first cases of COVID-19 appeared in December 2019 and spread globally, each country tried to control the virus by activating their own health protocols, but they became insufficient to face the pandemic and every control attempts seem impossible to all humanity, even more without the support of information technologies, which provides a rapid response for decision-making. Being that the reason why surveillance systems should help mitigate the spread of diseases and, at the same time, plan resources to protect the health status of citizens. Therefore, the aim of this article is to propose a model of a digital epidemiological surveillance 4.0, considering the current technological revolution and the constant evolution of the Internet. This model is divided into 4 phases: situational analysis, planning, execution and evaluation, and supported on 4 key components: logistic support, digital privacy and data protection, communication and technology, and disruptive innovation. A quantitative type of research was applied in a sample of 58 participants, all working as health staff in Chiclayo-Peru, to whom a data collection instrument, based on digital forms and interviews with medical epidemiologists, was applied, that information, which mainly considers the perception and perspectives of the epidemiological surveillance system, served as the basis for the proposed model. -
PublicaciónCOVID-19 Preventive Measures Among Artisan Women Working with Native Cotton in a Protected Natural Area(CEUR-WS, 2022-01-01)
; ; ;Esparza Huamanchumo, Rosse Marie ;Rondon, D.Esparza, M.A.O.The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the tourism sector globally. In recent years, tourism in Peru experienced sustained growth, and the natural protected areas (ANP Areas Naturales Protegidas) became consolidated into main tourist destinations. Nevertheless, vulnerable groups like artisan workers have suffered more acutely from this crisis. This study was conducted in the buffer zone of the Bosque de Pómac Historic Sanctuary, with the study population being the artisan women of the native cotton weaving line (of the scientific name of Gossypium barbadense L., a trade product native to the area, which is in the process of extinction and was used by ancestral cultures). The objective of this study is to describe the socio-demographic profile and the compliance with preventive measures against COVID-19 of artisan women for tourism recovery. The research has a quantitative, descriptive-cross-sectional approach. A checklist was given to 30 artisan women specifically from the Jotoro-Jayanca, Pómac III-Pitipo, and Túcume population centers. To test the content validity of the instrument, Aiken's validity coefficient was chosen with 10 assessors who were experts in health and tourism; the items were fully approved and statistically significant (Aiken's V = 1, p = 0.0 01). The data was processed with IBM SPSS version 25, using descriptive statistical techniques. The results showed that 93.3 of the artisans had their vaccination doses and 70% are still not complying with preventive measures such as hand washing, the use of masks, and social distancing required by COVID-19 on behalf of the Peruvian state. It is concluded that interventions are needed to apply protocols when tourism has recovered for personal, family, and community care. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. PublicaciónA Qualitative Systematic Literature Review on Phonological Awareness in Preschoolers Supported by Information and Communication TechnologiesThis review is a systematic literature review (SLR) with the aim of advancing the state of the art in Phonological Awareness in preschoolers (4–6 years) by means of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The SLR provides an important guide to newcomers to this domain and researchers who seek a structured body of knowledge in the subject for gaining new, important insights. Searches were carried out in the indexed database Scopus© between June and July 2020. Among the inclusion and exclusion criteria were studies reported in English, Spanish and Portuguese, updated electronic documents from the last ten years and studies cited by others at least once, except for those with publication acknowledgement after 2017. To complete the task, a triangulation assessment was made among three researchers using the same tool developed in Microsoft Excel©, in which the search terms, the search strings, inclusion and exclusion criteria and the study collection process were systematized along with a word cloud of keywords to improve the systematic feature of the SLR. Fifty-nine (59) scientific articles were selected and from those, 24 articles met the experts’ criteria. The method included: (1) search and selection of terms, (2) inclusion and exclusion criteria; (3) the searching process; and (4) reporting study collection. The SLR synthesis reported in this paper is a novel contribution built on two conceptual categories: Computer assisted learning systems (CAL) and Computer assisted instruction systems (CAI) which frame works on Phonological Awareness processes with Preschoolers and provide an appraisal of the results to advance knowledge of systematic reviews of preschoolers’ phonological awareness strictly supported by ICT.

PublicaciónVirtual Educational Intervention of Craftswomen Working with Native Peruvian Cotton during COVID-19 for Reactivating the Artisian Tourism(MDPI, 2022-01-01)
; ;Esparza Huamanchumo, Rosse MarieThe pandemic has significantly affected the tourism sector worldwide; however, craftswomen are a vulnerable group that has been affected economically by this crisis. This research evaluated the level of compliance with preventive measures before and after carrying out the virtual educational intervention for craftswomen working with native cotton in the Lambayeque Region, Peru. The methodology applied was a pilot study, quasi-experimental, without a control group. The population consisted of 30 craftswomen from the populated areas of La Raya–Túcume, Pómac III-Pitipo and Jotoro-Jayanca. SPSS Statistics v25 was used for data processing. The χ2 test was used in order to evaluate the variation before and after the intervention. The correlational findings demonstrate that after applying the virtual educational intervention, it is sufficient to apply specific measures in the first (before) and second stage (during) to obtain a higher result in compliance with the general level of the regulations against COVID-19. It is concluded that the virtual educational intervention for the craftswomen has generated awareness, impacting the care of their personal health, their family and their community, as well as being prepared for the reactivation of tourism. -
PublicaciónEffect of a telenursing intervention in the context of the pandemic to prevent childhood anemia: pilot study in Lambayeque, Perú(Universidad de Concepcion, 2022-01-01)
; ; ; ;Objective: To evaluate the effect of a telenursing intervention in the context of the pandemic to prevent childhood anemia in Peru. Material and Method: Pilot, analytical, quasi-experimental study with pre-and post-test. The sample consisted of 60 mothers from a primary health care facility in Lambayeque, Peru, who were selected at convenience and then assigned to a control group (30) and an experimental group (30), with the latter being subjected to a 4 months telenursing intervention. The effect was measured by comparing the average hemoglobin and dietary iron intake before and after the intervention. Hemoglobin level was determined biochemically through blood analysis. Dietary iron intake was collected through telephone interviews following a 24-hour recall. Results: The average hemoglobin level in the experimental group did not show significant differences between the beginning and the end of the intervention (p= 0.199); whereas in the control group, the average hemoglobin level showed significant differences between the beginning and the end of the intervention (p= 0.013). The average dietary intake of iron among the children of the control group (p= 0.049) and the experimental group (p= 0.000) had a significant difference between the beginning and the end of the intervention. Conclusion: The children who received the telenursing intervention suffered no anemia and the dietary iron intake increased, thus corroborating that telenursing programs have the potential of offering more information on nutrition, favoring the health of the child, the mother and the family. © 2022, Universidad de Concepcion. PublicaciónPerceptions of stakeholders and challenges faced by ecotourism management in a natural protected area in Peru(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2023-01-01)
;Esparza-Huamanchumo, Rosse Marie ;Llonto Caicedo, Yefferson ; ;Romo Román, Pablo CesarMougenot, BenoitNatural protected areas (NPAs) aim to preserve biodiversity, ecosystems, and the environmental services that contribute to the population’s welfare; their presence and maintenance are thus vital. The involvement of stakeholders through ecotourism is crucial to fostering sustainability in NPAs as they play an important role in the management of ecotourism activities and the implementation of development objectives, allowing for the conservation of these territories. This study seeks to identify the patterns and interrelationships between the sustainability-driving factors of local enterprises from the perspective of stakeholders in the Bosque de Pómac historic sanctuary in Lambayeque, Peru. A qualitative methodology was used to interview the actors involved in the Sanctuary’s tourism management. The results were assessed using ATLAS.ti software, version 9. The findings show that local entrepreneurs intend to meet an immediate need and have no tools to help them strengthen the business management, leadership, and innovation of their range of products and services to scale their business over time and promote the local population’s welfare. These results present several implications for management of ecotourism activities related to NPAs and their stakeholders. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V. -
PublicaciónSustainability in undergraduate course curricula at Andalusian (Spain) universities: a critical analysis(Frontiers Media SA, 2024)
;Lourdes Aranda ; ;José Manuel Ríos-ArizaEsther Mena-RodríguezEducation is one of the main tools used to implement sustainable development goals (SDGs). Higher education institutions (HEIs) have a major social responsibility regarding sustainability given the relevance and impact of their educational work and the creation of knowledge through their research. Sustainability is promoted and linked to values, teaching-learning methodologies, and studying of global–local problems. Within this framework, the objective of our research is to determine the presence and means by which sustainability appears in the course curricula of university bachelor’s degrees of the public universities of Andalusia (Spain). The study used quantitative methodology. As in other studies, major deficiencies have been revealed in terms of the inclusion of sustainability in the universities, determining a limited presence of local problems to address sustainability. Thus, Andalusian universities distance themselves from the society and community in which they exist. This may also limit student knowledge of sustainability issues in which they could potentially be relevant participants. -
PublicaciónDigital and Information Literacy in Basic-Education Teachers: A Systematic Literature Review(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-01-01)
; ;Julio Cabero-Almenara ;Gerber Pérez-Postigo ; ;Manuel Alfredo Alcázar-HolguinMauricio Vilca-RodríguezDigital transformation has become constant and has forced governments to reevaluate the validity of their educational models; therefore, regarding digital and information literacy, to train teachers to improve new digital skills becomes essential. For these reasons, this research will explore the instruction of teachers in digital and information literacy in basic education; likewise, there will be an observation of the research’s theoretical-methodological characteristics related to these variables, and, also, we will carry out an analysis of the most pertinent contributions on the impact of new literacies and competencies in the teaching–learning processes in basic education, with the purpose of obtaining a current state overview of its teacher training within the framework of the technologies’ usage linked to teaching. This review was based on the guidelines of the PRISMA protocol, and to select 56 documents, the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases were used. The results show that, in the Scopus database, Spain is the country with the most research on the subject, with 29% of the total, followed by Indonesia, with 6%, and the United States, with 4%, and that the articles focus mainly on the social sciences and computer science. Likewise, in WoS, the country with the most research on the subject is Spain, with 30%, followed by Russia, with 10%, and Norway, with 8%, and the articles mainly revolve around the categories of education and communication. The research related to this topic uses a quantitative approach in 68%, a qualitative approach in 25% and a mixed approach in 7%. It was shown that there is a direct relationship between digital and information literacy and digital competency. In addition, it is also emphasized that digital and information literacy are continuous and long-term processes. More didactic proposals on digital skills would be necessary, over government policies and efforts, to achieve a community with a high level of digital and information literacy. -

PublicaciónRevisión de los principios de mensurabilidad aplicados a la psicologíaThe measurement of psychological phenomena requires compliance with principles and rules established since the beginning of the 20th century and that are widely used in psychological and social research. The purpose of this article is to offer a chronological review of the basic principles and rules established from measurement theory. The methodology used was descriptive, using documentary research as a technique, through bibliographic review. The results show the rules of the numerical representation of phenomena, the mathematical principles on the notion of quantity and Campbell’s (1952) measurement rules, from physics. Similarly, Stevens’ (1946) measurement scales are presented as a guide for the recognition of the properties of phenomena in psychological and social research. Finally, measurement criteria and rules established from psychometrics and mathematical psychology are shown. It is concluded that the validity and rigor of the measurement are conditioned by the nature of psychological and social phenomena, as well as by compliance with a set of principles, axioms and rules from mathematics and physics. © (2024), (Universidad del Zulia). PublicaciónProposal for a Flipped Classroom Program with Massive Open Online Courses to Improve Access to Information and Information Literacy in Primary School Teachers(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-01-01)
;Ana Lendínez Turón ;José Manuel Ortiz Marcos ;Oswaldo Lorenzo QuilesThe objective of this study was to propose a teacher training program based on the flipped classroom model with MOOCs to strengthen access to information and information literacy among primary education teachers in the Lambayeque region of Peru. The non-experimental design was assumed with a quantitative approach and a propositional, descriptive type. A diagnosis was made using a questionnaire given to 917 primary school teachers. It was discovered that nearly all of the items in the questionnaire revealed a deficiency in the ability to navigate, search, and filter information, data, and digital content; the highest percentages were at the Basic level, with the exception of the item expressing information needs in an organized manner, which was at the Advanced C2 level. The lowest percentage was at the Advanced C1 level, and the majority of the lower percentages were at the Advanced level. In addition, there are competency deficiencies in the evaluation of information, data, and digital content of nearly all the items: the highest percentages were at the Basic level, with the exception of the item involving the processing of information, data, and digital content, where 26.4% were at the Intermediate B1 level and just 2.8% managed to be at the highest level, which is Advanced C2. Furthermore, when it came to storage and retrieval of information, data, and digital content competency, all the high percentages were at the Basic level, and all the low percentages were at the highest level, that is, Advanced. These findings helped us to understand that teachers have only a basic knowledge of information literacy and information competency. As a result, it is necessary to advocate for a teacher training program based on the flipped classroom model with MOOCs. This idea was supported by the opinions of five experts, who stated that its implementation would enable primary teachers of Regular Basic Education in the region of Lambayeque (Peru) to develop their access to information and information literacy competency area. -
PublicaciónAplicación del ultrasonido para conservar las propiedades antioxidantes de la pitahaya(Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions, 2024-01-01)Pitahaya fruit has a considerable content of antioxidant and nutraceutical substances. Traditional techniques and thermal treatments used in fruit processing alter the phytochemical and nutritional components and limit their utilization, so a modern and suitable technology was sought to help preserve its components, finding ultrasound as one of the techniques that favors the preservation of the nutritional properties, bioactivity and antioxidants of the fruit pulp and its derived or processed products. In the processing of the pitahaya, the pulp was extracted by cutting it into slices and freezing it at -50°C, then freeze-drying it for about 49 hours. The dry ground sample was macerated in methanol for 7 days, separated into portions to determine the antioxidant capacity by DPPH method and analyzed by spectrophotometer. In a filtered portion, the antioxidant capacity was determined directly, and other portions were subjected to ultrasound before analysis, evaluating the times, power and frequency of application in order to preserve the natural antioxidant and nutritional composition of the pulp; it was found that the sample to which ultrasound was applied for 20 minutes at 180 W power and 40 kHz frequency was the most relevant to preserve the antioxidant capacity of the pitahaya pulp. © 2024 Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions.
